This project
Manual Installation Process
- Technicians were relying on paper maps and checklists to manually assign sensors to customer locations, making the process inefficient and error-prone.
Slow Deployments
- Because of the manual setup, each installation took longer than it should, limiting how many sites could be completed daily.
High Maintenance Costs
- About 10% of installations had errors, leading to costly revisits and extra labor hours that could have been avoided.
Limited In-House Resources
- SmartSense’s engineering team was focused on modernizing legacy systems and didn’t have the bandwidth to take on a new project.
To enhance operational efficiency, we developed a custom mobile app that allows technicians to scan sensors and instantly link them to specific facility locations in real time. This innovation reduced a three-step manual process to a single automated step.
The app also includes quality checks that are performed before and after configuration, as well as automatic alerts for low battery levels and hardware issues. This proactive approach has eliminated the manual errors that used to cause false alarms and required urgent attention.
The success of the app also comes down to its user-friendly UX design. It’s intuitive and easy to navigate, which means technicians can get up to speed quickly without needing extensive training and documentation. As a result, they can work more efficiently and serve more customers each day.
